This is 40 : Janise from Mama in Heels

I'm so excited to introduce you to sweet Janise from Mama in Heels today!
It's funny, I "knew" Janise before I ever read her blog when we were 1 and 2 in Circle of Mom's Fashion + Beauty moms voting last year.
All day, every day, I was saying, "I'm just behind that  Mama in Heels!" {and it stayed that way until the end} and now, I visit her blog often.
Janise is mama to twin boys and, like me, has an italian hubby.
She's a yoga lover + former business owner.
Doing it all, and looking fabulous while she does.
A true inspiration.
Welcome, Janet.

1. How has your style evolved since getting older?
My style is always evolving but over the years I dress for myself and no one else.  I know what flatters me and what I feel good wearing.  I feel comfortable in my own skin and don’t care what people think.

I have always had a staple of good black, white and grey basics in my wardrobe but with an eclectic mix of vintage and modern.  Ever since turning 40, my philosophy has been focusing more on cost per wear and wear what you love.  I basically spend wisely on the things that I really love and use.

2. Anything you would have worn when you were younger but absolutely wouldn't dream of wearing now?
The short short minis are definitely out.  It just looks freaky on a 40+ year old woman. But I love wearing shorts in the summer though…is that a double standard?
I don’t wear tight or bodycon clothing any more.  If I do, I will cover the dress with a nice blazer to balance out the hoochie look.

3. Any looks you regret?
I permed my hair (the Madonna era) in my teens and carried that perm till my early twenties.  The curls were so tight that I looked like Chia Pet’s twin.  Yet, I thought I was so cool!  That was definitely not a look for me but it taught me a lot…not to ever ever perm my hair again.

4. What do you know now that you wish you had known then?
I should have kept those on-trend pieces that I could wear now.  And, I should have invested in a few Chanels instead of buying trendy cheap bags.

5. Who is your favourite 40+ inspiration and why?
Gwyneth Paltrow.  She carries herself with style, grace and intelligence.  And this woman is also very talented!  She also leads a very healthy life…what’s not to be inspiring?
Kate Moss is another 40+ inspiration in terms of style.  She’s uber chic and stylish…enuf said.

6. Best advice you would give to your younger self.
Love yourself and never settle.  Enjoy your youth and be the best that you can be.  It’s okay that you are a late bloomer because you will accomplish so much later in your life.

7. Anything else you want to share.
I love bargain shopping at various discounted online stores, at vintage stores and flea markets.  One of the ways to save money in fashion is to remix and restyle last season’s clothes.

Gwynnie!! One of my very favourites. Can't believe I forgot her.
I think it's because I think we're already besties. in my head.

Janise, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful self with us today.
The 40's never looked better!

  4. What a beautiful woman! I love the classy pieces and especially the leopard coat + over-the knee boots.
I think we all tried a perm in our younger years and should have known better ;-)
I will now pay Janise's blog a visit.

Thanks for your new series, Susan!

  5. Janise is gorgeous! Good choice. I also like to wear shorts in the summer but also won't wear the short mini. I think it is the modesty issues with sitting??? I think Janise's style is classy, polished, and a little sexy. Perfect for a this is 40 mom!

  8. I've only just discovered Janise recently... I'm sure she's an imposter to the 40+ brigade, though!! ;))

Her style suits her so perfectly, and I love her fix of femininity and edge. That skirt in the first pic is just GAHHH - I want it!!
