This Kid + An Ode to Late Bloomers

For as long as I can remember, this kid has beat to the sound of his own drum.
He was a leader, never a follower.
He was afraid of almost everything.
Never really had the confidence to go out and try something, anything, that he really wanted to do.
He always played shy. Looked down. Often times, visibly uncomfortable.
Refused to try any team sports.
We didn't know what to do to make it better.
And hoped that the years, growing up, would change that.

In recent months, something changed.
Multiplied by the fact that he grew about 10 inches.
He's still a shy kid, no doubt.
But this year?
This year, he plays soccer. On an actual team.
And you know what?
He's pretty damn good.

Can I get an amen for late bloomers?
And another to Gildan for sending us the spiffy athletic wear.
My boy loves it.

  2. Dearest Susan,
Your Julian looks really okay and I'd rather have a late bloomer, that actually silently matured a lot more inside than most loud-mouthed trouble makers. You're so blessed! He still has lots of years ahead of him and let him be shy and serious, he is a keen observer and that will get him a lot farther.
    Hugs,
    Mariette
