Holiday, Celebrate : Traditions + Memories

Tell me, did that title make you break out into a Madonna song?
The holidays will do that to you.
They'll also make even the scroogiest out there, suckers for tradition.
The smell of Christmas cookies baking, decorating outdoors followed by hot chocolate + marshmallows indoors and of course, yearly Santa photos.
I have so many memories of Christmas' past; the best of which are those that have been constant since I was a little girl.
The anticipation of opening gifts on Christmas Eve once we got through dinner was almost too much to handle. And today? I get to see my own children suffer go through the same thing.
Pure joy.

Dressing in their Christmas best. New pj's, always.
Pictures in front of the tree.
The adults enjoying coffee + dessert while the children check out their new goodies.
Early Christmas mornings.
Checking on Santa's arrival. Squeals + Stockings.
Watching It's a Wonderful Life.
Christmas Day lunch.
And the blessed calm that follows.

Until Boxing Day.
My second favourite day of the year.

Do you have a favourite holiday tradition?

  1. Oh Susan, you were able to capture such delight on those beautiful children's faces. Is there anything more precious? Yes, I am about finished with my shopping. Much was done online this year for the first time, and I'm thinking it may be way to go in the future. Favorite traditions? Being with family! We have spent Christmas with our son and his family where ever they may be for the past several years and I wouldn't change that a bit. We have loved anticipating our traveling to Indiana for the past six years for a White Christmas and tons of family memories. May you have a most memorable Christmas with your family this year.

  4. Dearest Susan,
Oh, what a fun post and I love your line: And the calm that follows... At least you have Boxing Day, like we had 2nd Christmas Day in Europe!
Savor it and know that soon we'll be starting all over with a fresh year.
Hugs and happy 2nd Advent week.
