Life She is a Changin' {again}

Thinking back over the last few years led me to this post which had me sharing my fear over a decision made to hire a nanny to look after a then just over a year old, Ava Grace.
I was so uneasy.
Just couldn't wrap my head around leaving her in the care of someone else.
Just couldn't imagine the hustle + bustle of working full-time again with {now} 3 kids and yet again, missing so many of the daily moments we all take for granted.
So, I did something about it.
And then, I shared this post.
Today, as my life has changed yet again, I can reflect back on the early days of leaving Ava and then deciding not to do that again for a while with fondness. And with the knowledge that I know I made the best decision of my life.
The past 4 years have been my best yet.
Lazy summers with the kids, extended vacations in Florida and days spent just enjoying my time with the little blessing we never really planned on having.
She has taught me so many lessons in her short life.
The first one of these being that you only have one. And that you can never get back the most important thing in the world.

And now, it's time for ms. Ava Grace to go to school.
And it's time for this mama to go back to work.
I've already started this new journey, slowly transitioning from being home to being away for what feels like forever although it's only a few days a week right now.
Ava is loving preschool.
And I'm loving getting to have real-life daily interaction with grown ups again.
The timing feels right.
I'm on a new adventure with a new organization in a role quite unlike what I was doing before.
It's an international organization and there will be some travelling.
Not looking forward to that piece.
In my short time back, I've already learned that I cannot leave home in the morning before saying goodbye to ms. Ava Grace.
She literally lost her mind last week and asked me to turn around and come home right now.
So for now, this mama has to wake a sleeping babe on the mornings I leave.
And everyone is much happier.

It's an adjustment.
For all of us.
Wish us luck!

  1. I wish you both a smoother transition....I hope to get to where you are now one day. Hope B and J are doing well too. I wish you the best of everything as you take on new challenges but experience such wonderful new adventures.xoxo

  2. It's a hard transition to make but you are going to have so much fun and be challenged by this new roll that the days will fly by!
    xo Emma

  3. That is such fabulous news!!!! So excited for you ....congrats. I think Miss A. may adjust a little quicker than her mama. Is the new job in the city??? can't wait to catch up over a cup of tea/cafe/or chocolat chaud!! Hugs, C.

  4. Dearest Susan,
You will get used to this new life soon; no doubt! It also teaches us how FAST time is going forward. Ms Ava Grace going to pre-school already. ENJOY!

  5. I totally feel you on this one. We are transitioning back to work at the same time. Reading your posts brings me right back to where I was when I knew I couldn't leave Sophie at a daycare or whatever and go back to work. I just wanted to be there with them (before there was a them lol!).

And now my baby is going to preschool this fall and I am transitioning back into working life (albeit very differently than the 25 year old self had planned) and I know I am ready. Because the kids really do enjoy that time at school with kids and I will get my time with adults. And an excuse to wear my "good" clothes more often!

  6. It is the natural flow and I am sure after a transition period, everybody will not only get used to the new situation but also enjoy it. ALive her older siblings, Ava will make new friends and learn so many things at preschool and you will be busy with your job. And I am sure the travelling will be such an exciting part of your job!

    All the best,
    Annette | Lady of Style

  7. I hope it goes well for you mama! So exciting! Jude tends to freak out when I am not there in the mornings...I feel for ya.

I love reading every last one. Thanks so much for stopping by our little blog. xo.
