Melancholy

I can't quite put my finger on it but ever since we returned from our time away, I haven't felt like myself.
I am chalking it up to the "after vacation" blues but to be totally honest, I'm not feeling blue about being back. Not that I consciously realize anyway.
Yes, gone are the beach days // pool days // shopping all day days but it's also been great to see family {I missed my mama!} and to reconnect with friends.
I've tried getting out.
Once to a super fun blogging event to preview the fall collection of Express {SO great} + this past weekend to cheer on my "friend that I've never met but feel like I've known forever" Michelle {you might remember her from this + this post} at the Mud Hero charity event.
Things that would have me in my element + excited.
But, my mind is just so preoccupied.
I am honestly not sure with what. Just spinning.
With nonsense really.
My patience is at an all-time low. I'm so easily irritated.
I have suffered with anxiety before but this is different.
Menial things like putting dinner on, or taking Ava to the park seem like a chore.
I don't like it and am so frustrated.
I am hoping the change of seasons brings newness.
In the meantime, I am trying to surround myself with people I love + with doing things I love.
Solo time wandering the aisles at the drugstore {am I the only one who loves to do this?}, far too much coffee + yes, there has been chocolate
I am going to kick this funk.
Of that, I am sure.
But for now, any suggestions?
Tell me I'm not the only one.
Oh to be as young + carefree as my sweet boy is in these photos.
They make me happy.
Maybe I just need to go back to the sunshine after all.

Thank God for this little blog.

  1. Thanks for being so open and honest with what you're going through Susan. I think we've all been there before to some degree, but sometimes we can paint a rosier picture of life online. I'll be praying that you get some answers as to why you're struggling, and that it passes soon.

  3. You are not alone my friend ... wish there was a cookie cutter answer - but we all know there is none. A day at the Spa (as Michelle noted above) would definitely help lift the spirits (count me in--- I could so use some relaxing distraction).
Sending you positive energy and hugs that this passes for you ~ in the mean time I ALLOW yourself some pj days ... and with the rain and thunder today it should be easy to curl up on sofa with Ava and do nothing. Pk maybe bake some of that wonderful loaf you baked when I visited. Or Eat lots of ice-cream... Hugs, C.

    1. Thanks Celia! I think we should all go?!
And, I think as women, we often take too much on and then never feel as though we can just take a break and/or let anything slip. I know I am far too hard on myself.
      Maybe I will....xo

  4. Dearest Susan,
Melancholy... guess we both must have some same blood from an area where melancholy is so evident in its music. My Dad used to sing some great songs, that touched your heart, from your family's region.
Yes, I feel like that too as ALL my plans fell in the water; literally. The entire week was spent fighting the water instead of continuing on the usual things of tidying up the home and having socials with friends. I had done the shopping for a big get together and eating a cold buffet, very European. But what now? No fun things, just looking a mud and more to clean up on. No mud in the home though! But having water coming in on the tiles is no fun. You feel like having to clean rigorously afterward. And frankly, I'm not in the mood for doing it now. What IF it starts all over again? And socializing around Labor Day weekend is impossible as people take off on their own; one last hold on summer...
Guess we have to eat some more good dark chocolate Susan and tough it out! It will eventually go away...
Hugs and congrats on being 2nd runner up on this Rose Royce Denim Ambassador deal. With me doing night shift, that was a rewarding thing to do in-between.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  6. I know the feeling. Sometimes, when I return from a lovely vacation or after an event that I had looked forward to, I will find myself out-of-sorts and restless. I think that the preparation and anticipation of these events give us an adrenaline high. When we return to normal activities, things just seem blah. The best cure is to take care of yourself and give yourself a little time.

  13. ya. so last . week i hit a wall. i was watching my kids. watching my nephews. the hubs was gone for 48 straight. i was outnumber by 6 kids. when someone yelled mama...i wanted to yell back that is not my name. oh and i wanted for people to stop touching me. lol . sooooooo you are so not alone. the best part? the overwhelming guilt you feel after you have lashed out and throw yourself a pitty party. lol

for me a little down time helps...or a whole reeces peanut butter cup...all 210 calories :)
